While the plot was kind of by-the-numbers, and followed a little strangely on the first book by diverging from a lot of the plot threads I'd expected to see followed, it also expanded the world and the characters in ways that really drew me in. What a strange and wonderful world this is, full of strange and wonderful beings.

Moon and his adopted clan, the Indigo Cloud court, reach their new home only to discover that an integral piece of it has been stolen. I enjoy these characters so it was fun to read another in the series. But I thought there was not quite enough story to support the number of pages— I skimmed quite a bit. Still, I’m looking forward to the next one.

A little convoluted near the end, but a really solid story with all the positives of the first book and the advantages of established characters I've grown to enjoy. Worldbuilding continues to be astounding but the book doesn't rely on it as the book's only source of charm.

Second read: First review is still accurate

I found myself longing for more of Moon and Jade, and I thought I should read it while I had a vague remembrance of the characters and story :)
It is richly written, lush, fantastic with such subtle humor. The Raksura can't seem to catch a break, but at least it wasn't all death and destruction from the Fell.

This one kept me captive, a city built on the back of a leviathan? A mountain-tree for a home? This book kept me really engaged and I enjoyed how long the story was and it was a full arc. Could have stopped after this one, but why? I love this world.

It was less intense with smaller scope of a plot after the first book, more domestic in which readers were exposed more to the way of life of Raksuran courts. It was a fun read with adventure, leviathan, lot of fights, desperate mission to save their home. Overall it was not a complex or intricate story, it was more like a comfort read. And the world.. Oh my gosh the world.. If I could trasported there, I probably will be like archaelogist/explorer winged non-human being. Gosh, that will be awesome.
