Oh my god, this was so captivating, I was kept at the edge of my seat for pretty much the whole time!
This book is the last volume in the series of The Cemetery of Forgotten Books. And somehow, it feels like an appropriate finale for the whole thing: I have revisited my reviews for the previous books, and it seems I was lukewarm in the previous ones, but for this one, I definitely found it absolutely hot.
The story revolves mostly around Alicia Gris, as she investigates the disappearance of Mauricio Valls. She works for the secret police, and oh she is really good. The people around her know that, and so she has a few enemies. But fortunately, she knows this, and can cold-bloodedly kill them, even though she gets injured every now and then.
While there are numerous characters from the previous books that appear here as well, the plot of this book is independent, and one doesn't need knowledge of the previous books to understand what is going on here. Nevertheless, knowing the background of the previous characters can definitely help, as it opens up a wider universe. In any case, I definitely liked the unpredictability of the plot, although maybe it was just me, and I am not used to reading thrillers and therefore I was absolutely thrilled, but perhaps for more seasoned readers, this was as predictable a thriller can be, who knows.
In any case, what I liked was the fact that there were numerous characters who you couldn't figure out. Yes, there's the obvious Hendaya, he's evil through and through. But there are other characters who you thought were good but turned out evil, other characters who appeared weak but actually was strong, and so forth. So many surprises in many different corners are contained in this book, which was perhaps the main reason why I absolutely enjoyed it.
So yes, this was a good one. I absolutely recommend it. I give it 5 out of 5 stars, for an electrifying thrilling experience.

What can I say it's a masterpiece just like the previous ones. It was soooooo gooood and really fascinating as always. I loved it so much. It's really my favorite after "The shadow of the wind".
Free Tip: You have to either read the previous ones before it or try to read a summary with A LOT of spoilers inorder to remember the characters because they'll give each character more depth.
It didn't feel like you're reading a story it felt as if you went to the bottom of the hell. You'll see A LOT of inhumane actions, a lot of misery and sadness. The story unreveals a lot of the dark and disgusting sides of humans and a very cruel sides of wars.
But as always Zafon wrote it in away that'll captivate you from the first to the last page. You'll feel as if the book and it's characters are somehow your home.
Alicia was an extraordinary character , the type of women that I like and find extremely attractive. A real life fighter and role model.
Fermín Romero this man is such a mood. I have no idea how did Mr.Zafon created him and how he created the way this man talks and acts. It's a very unique character. Really one of a kind. I'm a big fan of him. His parts was the most entertaining and the funniest parts of the book.
Leandro... this man was creepy as hell. But I saw it coming in some point...I don't know but I thought about who could it be the oane who's moving the dolls from behind and I couldn't think of anyone but him. I saw his betrayel coming. I even predicted how he'll die. Those types of people are literally everywhere around us and it creeps me out knowing that we're living in the same world with those wicked people.
That reminds me a lot with "Pawns in the game" cause I know that Leandro will be perfect in those games.
Mauricio Valls...the way the KARMA got that man was everything. That was really the best way for a brat like him to die. This made me soooo satisfied. Good defeats evil in the most horrifying ways. He really made him dies without any dignity forgotten in this gohst town.
Julián...I really loved the way Mr.Zafon described his books on the tongue of little Julián. It was as if I'm reading a summary to the entire collection. I have to say that was very interesting, unique and it made me smile.
The only thing that I found too much for me was the violent events...it was quite hefty.
The second thing was the death of Hendaya this man was brutal as hell and I don't know, I think I wanted to see him dying in much more horrible ways. I wanted to see him suffer the same way Valls did.
But overall it was so perfect. I really wanted to end my year with it, even though it was very big. I really didn't thought I could make ot in such a short period of time. But great writers made you addicted. Finally I can rest it on the shelf with the rest of the collection.
I have to also say that after reading this book I knew that his characters will stick with me for a long time more than I could ever imagine, I just feel it.. that's the first time a book gives me this feeling again after "One hundred years of solitude "... Lucky me
