This is a callous and cruel-hearted book about cognitive dissonance. It isn’t enjoyable, it’s not funny, and it’s not light hearted. It is bleak and paranoid, controversial and taboo, but it’s well worth reading. Please check the trigger warnings first.

The diction used by the author is more telling than showing. Not a fun read. The plot is interesting but the execution could have been immensely better.

The author tried to do something..... I presume she wanted to shed light on social issues and challenge how we go through our daily lives. But to do that you've got to write in a foothold for the reader to care.

None of the characters are likeable or relatable. Even the main character with all his hardship is so awful and pathetic that I didn't care about what he was going through.

Without any humanity to care about the whole novel is just gore porn.
There could have been something here but it was fumbled. There's a thousand tired tropes and no real point to anything happening. I could go on for a lot longer about how and why but it would probably be faster to just rewrite the book.

I found this book very difficult to read and found myself skipping large portions of it because it made me feel so disturbed and sick. If that was the authors intent, they succeeded. The second star is given only for their commitment to seeing this disturbing story through to the very last sentence so expertly.
