I bought this as an impulse purchase at a grocery store. I do not regret that. It's wonderfully written and keeps you engaged.

The Whispers of War was a very insightful story of WW2 London. Instead of the cold story written in history books, The Whispers of War brings reality and understanding.

I was invested in the characters. I devoured their life, gaining an understanding what they went through.

What a beautiful story! I just love these ladies!
I can’t remember the last time I had to grab a tissue while reading a book

The title is spot-on here: this is an insubstantial book with twittering about the war.

I enjoyed this. The friendship between the three main characters was the central focus of the book. It was interesting learning how difficult life was for German nationals living in England during the war too. Kelly’s books just don’t quite reach the same emotional level for me that many other WWII historical fiction books do and I just can’t give them more than 3 stars.

The Whispers of War

This is the story of three modern young women during WWII in England. They became friends in their teens while attending a boarding school for girls. Their friendship was immediate, and they bonded as sisters. They are willing to do anything to one another. Marie is German by birth but lived most of her life in England. When WWII starts, she faces the risk of being sent to an internment camp. Her friends, Nora and Hazel, will not let her down and will do all they can to keep her safe; even if it will cost them.

This is a beautiful story of courage, friendship, loyalty, and love. This historical novel is told from the perspective of a German native in England during WWII and the discrimination they encounter. Great book.

This book was a whole lot of nothing, as in nothing happened.
I kept reading waiting for something to happen but was sorely disappointed.
It’s almost like there’s missing chapters from this book, there is a build up of characters events and then the book was finished everything concluded in about 3 pages.
I particularly disliked the chapters of Samantha set in the present, it was all telling instead of showing (and it told very little at that)and time moved without acknowledgement it made it seem like she was in London for about a day
Spoiler which made her romance with David seem odd, I kept thinking ‘you’ve known this guy for like a day’

Lastly, this book was poorly edited. Several times characters names were mixed up or the name would change halfway through a paragraph. Or the characters would talk about how they had to give up the radio in their house only to later on be listening to their radio at home with no explanation of how they got the radio back. I had to keep flipping back to pages in this book to see if I had missed something and nope I hadn’t. This really spoiled the reading of this book for me.

I’ve rated it 2 stars but it’s really 1.5 stars

The three main characters are lovely, and I appreciate the independence each possess. I wasn’t as familiar with the British government and German resident internment camps, so it was an interesting plot line. The book centers around the friendship of three women, but has a second timeline that doesn’t bring much to the story. I enjoyed the book. Simon & Schuster for sending a copy in exchange for an honest review.

The listening of this one got interrupted by some historical non-fiction so it took way too long to finish. A great listen though.
