Great story. Liked by both males and females in my class which is rare!

I read this book many years ago in 7th grade and I've read it a couple more times since. I really love this book. The main character is broody and has a lot of drive once he realizes something isn't right. His siblings are adorable and well portrayed in the writing. Pretty much every character has a unique and completely explained personality. Even the characters you only meet at the end of the book are well rounded. 5 stars from me. I would categorize this as a YA psychological thriller

The concept of a bunker to protect against a nuclear war takes me back to my childhood, but this bunker is a bunker more elaborate than any other. The plot and twists with flashbacks interspersed kept things moving along pretty quickly. A couple times there were surprises that seemed to come from out of the blue. They gave me pause but didn't derail my reading.

Eli and his family have been living in the family compound underground for six years - ever since the nuclear war. But something doesn't seem right to Eli. It's not that his dad hasn't planned well or equipped the bunker with everything they could need (being a billionaire has it's advantages), it's just that his dad is being extremely secretive and what about that wireless Internet connection that came up for a minute. Would that have happened if the rest of the world had bee destroyed? Eli has to male some hard decisions and fast.

Well written.
Main character not as likable when it begins, but when you understand some of his self-imposed isolation from his family, it makes sense.

2009-2010 Lonestar.

Interesting but some of the bad science made it hard to believe in what was going on.

I think this might be one of my favourite books of all time. I was really young when I read it (over a decade ago) but still remember a lot of the details. Of course the twist at the end was amazing as I began to slowly realise was the antagonist was doing.

"T.S. Eliot was wrong. My world ended with a bang the minute we entered the Compound and that silver door closed behind us."

This was a good YA novel, and I feel like it would have been an even better adult novel. There were so many good, dark undertones that would have benefitted from being taken just a step forward-but the author shied away.

Our main protagonist wasn't very likable, (honestly really only the mother and little Lucas were well portrayed characters imo) but the story itself was interesting enough to keep me involved. The plot developed rapidly to a dark secret being aired explosively. This was a fast paced novel that will definitely keep readers engaged.

Eli and (most) of his family take shelter in a secret compound built by their father when the planet is annihilated. For six years, the family waits for the time to come when it's finally safe for them to leave the compound. Food begins to run out. Tempers and attitudes begin to flare up. Things are not as they seem.

Although at times the story felt a little far fetched, my class was enthralled and needed to know what was in store for the family as we read The Compound aloud.

the father in this book is CRAZY i hope they come out with another one
