Very slow start for me, but ended up loving it. Can’t wait for the sequel!

Interesting concept not the best execution. Book felt like it could've been 100-200 pages shorter. Emory was annoying me so much I almost DNF the book because of her. The fact she seemed to ignore or just not notice the giant flashing neon sign that Kieran was just using her made me want to smack her constantly. Baz was more tolerable but still not great. I did not feel any chemistry between any characters except Baz and Kai. Ending was interesting may or may not pick up the second book.

If you’re looking for a dark academia fantasy book with an interesting magic system that is not really character driven, i would say this might interest you.

for me, however, this book fell flat on so many levels. for starters, it was probably 200 pages too long. it could’ve easily been shorten especially with everything happening during the last 100 pages. the slow beginning made it hard to connect with the story and the characters. i really feel like we would’ve benefited from having romie’s pov, bringing us back to before the events happened and what led to everything, it would’ve been a good way to not just reveal all the information and answers within two chapters at the very end.
i also didn’t manage to connect with them in any way. i hated emory and baz was only okay. the side characters barely had any purposes outside of being pawns representing their houses in rituals, they had no depth or purposes. and don’t talk to me about this stupid love triangle.

i do not know if im gonna continue the series, just because i probably will forget everything and im not invested enough to want to know the true ending.
