I didn't know how much I miss Nightcrawler, until I read this volume.

Meh. I love Jason Aaron and I love Nightcrawler, but this was just hokey.

This story is clearly not for me. I have never read X-Men or really watched anything related to it. So all the references to past works are not something I understand which caused me to feel like I was playing catch up the entire book.

I liked the idea of them going to Heaven, Purgatory, and Hell but I feel that the execution of it could have been stronger. This story also sags in the middle which is a shame when you consider this was originally released in parts.

Overall descent but I have little reason to read again

I've never read much X-Men but Jason Aaron's name brought me to this. It was interesting seeing the changes from my main reference point of watching the animated series when I was little, and the story and characters were strong enough that dipping in here didn't feel strange. For the most part, the art is pretty great with bold bright chunky characters, interesting design, adorable bamfs and decent clear action. The only trouble was Firestar and her preposterous, independently living boobs and suggestively destroyed outfit that seemed straight out of a teenage boys fantasy which really tainted it for me. That aside though, it's clear why Nightcrawler is such a popular character, and this was a fun, swashbuckling romp that was mostly enjoyable yet disposable to me, but probably pretty great if you're a fan.

Ok but the Bamfs are the literal cutest and I want like ten of them (at least).

The art was marvelous--(I've always had a huge crush on Nightcrawler, and this art just made me have a completely relapse--bright, strong colors, awesome full page illustrations, and Nightcrawler looking DEVILISHLY handsome [*facepalm*]) and honestly, I loved reading a comic that was basically all about Nightcrawler, what he meant to the people he left behind, and seeing how happy every one was to have him back (ESPECIALLY Logan! So cute!). Honestly...the whole...pirates thing seemed....>.> Weird...and definitely filler-y. Like, even the characters address how corny it should be, but they're having a good time, so I'll just let them be X) But yeah--Kurt is the centerpiece of this volume, and its just awesome. He is such a sweetheart, and his whole family crisis regarding his biological parents--its the typical Nightcrawler, and its just so nice to be able to read it in such a heartwarming comic. The ending with the BAMFs was a little sad...but...I have faith in Nightcrawler!

So, 2 stars for the art, 2 stars just for the fuzzy blue elf himself and all his preciousness X)

POPSUGAR's 2016 Reading Challenge: A graphic novel.

"My name is Kurt Wagner. And this is the story of how I fell from Heaven. Though I suppose if I'm being completely honest, I didn't fall at all. I jumped."

I love Nightcrawler.
I loved how sassy everyone is.
I loved it all.

One of my students called this the best kind of X-Men fan fiction. He was right.
