Catherine Cowles and hockey romance are not two things that I would ever think would be in the same sentence, but she really knocked it out of the park with this one. (Wrong sport, but the metaphor works)
Both Sutton and Cope have a plethora of trauma but when Sutton has to move in with Cope because her awful landlord has once again risen the rent, they both find themselves opening up to each other in ways they never expected.
Add in that Cope is Sutton's son's new hockey coach, and Cope can't help but take the kid under his wing, and you have the sweetest found family. The scene wherein Luca breaks down and asks Cope if he can be his dad... I'm still crying. It was so incredibly sweet, and I adore this little family.
And for once, I wasn't entirely focused on the mystery of it all. It helps that I thought I knew who the bad guy was the entire time, so I didn't bother to look too closely at anyone else... though that proved to be a mistake 😅 The villian wasn't as shocking this time as it was just sad. I felt so bad for Cope and just wanted to give him a hug. The guy already blamed himself for so much, so to know there was someone who was actively trying to make him feel that way was really heartbreaking.
I really did love this. It felt different than the other Cowles novels I've read while also staying entirely true to her usual small-town stories. And knowing that Linc is our MMC of Beautiful Exile makes me really excited for what our favorite team owner is going to bring.

Cope Copeland is hands down the ideal book boyfriend. The way he showed his love and protectiveness of the local bakery owner, Sutton and her son was so sweet and the tenderness he had for them and his own family really shone through.
The Colson family has to be one of my favourite families with their uniquely hilarious grandmother, Lolli and her special diamond art, and family members that come from all kinds of backgrounds. This book provides more insight into Cope’s family, which I really loved learning on how they came to be shaped into the family they are now.
Broken Harbor delivers on all the emotions and narration by Connor Crais and Erin Mallon did a great performance by making the story come alive.
Thank you to the author for the alc. All thoughts expressed in this review are my own.

Whelp, Catherine did it again! Her writing, story-telling, character/relationship development, the suspense/mystery, it was just everything I hoped for with this book and more. This is possibly my new favorite in the series.
My heart was absolutely breaking for Sutton from the prologue. Everything she went through, the strength she possessed, the way she took care of Luka, her son... wow, what a woman. She truly may be my favorite fmc in the series. I really related to and saw so much of my mother and my younger self in her and Luka's situation.
Cope. This man 🥵❤. He was truly just such a fierce protector and caretaker. I know we believed his brother, Shep, to be the protector and caretaker of the family, but honestly, I think Cope also had that quality, maybe even more so than Shep. I really felt for him, and the weight of his past that he had been carrying. I loved that he confided in Sutton and found a person that could truly help him begin to heal. Also, the banter was bantering and the "talk" was talking... IYKWIM. Also, his nickname for Sutton *SIGH* 🥹❤.
Cope and Sutton together.... FIREWORKS! I loved them! They were absolutely perfect for each other, and I really enjoyed how their relationship developed. Cope allowed Sutton her independence while still supporting her and giving her that "safe place" for her and Luka. And, Sutton allowed Cope to really breathe again and find peace within the storm that had been raging in his life.
And... in true Catherine fashion, the mystery was mysterying. She got me again. I thought I had it figured out, but well, she pieced it all together in a way I did not expect.
Also, I had the privilege of also listening to the Audiobook, and man, oh man! It was 🔥. Connor Crais and Erin Mallon did a fantastic job bringing these two characters to life. Though, I would not expect anything less from those two. It was absolutely perfect and if you have a chance to listen to the book, you should. You will not be disappointed.

I love Sutton and Cope together. This man could sense her past and pain, yet he stood by her and patiently waited for her to open up. Sutton is a wonderful mother to her son and will always do anything for him. She’s strong, given everything she’s been through. I really enjoyed the story and the twist at the end. Honestly, I love Cathrine’s books! Highly recommend the audiobook if you’re looking to pick this up!
