Catherine Cowles and hockey romance are not two things that I would ever think would be in the same sentence, but she really knocked it out of the park with this one. (Wrong sport, but the metaphor works)

Both Sutton and Cope have a plethora of trauma but when Sutton has to move in with Cope because her awful landlord has once again risen the rent, they both find themselves opening up to each other in ways they never expected.

Add in that Cope is Sutton's son's new hockey coach, and Cope can't help but take the kid under his wing, and you have the sweetest found family. The scene wherein Luca breaks down and asks Cope if he can be his dad... I'm still crying. It was so incredibly sweet, and I adore this little family.

And for once, I wasn't entirely focused on the mystery of it all. It helps that I thought I knew who the bad guy was the entire time, so I didn't bother to look too closely at anyone else... though that proved to be a mistake šŸ˜… The villian wasn't as shocking this time as it was just sad. I felt so bad for Cope and just wanted to give him a hug. The guy already blamed himself for so much, so to know there was someone who was actively trying to make him feel that way was really heartbreaking.

I really did love this. It felt different than the other Cowles novels I've read while also staying entirely true to her usual small-town stories. And knowing that Linc is our MMC of Beautiful Exile makes me really excited for what our favorite team owner is going to bring.

I loved Broken Harbor. Every time I had the time to spare, I was listening to this.
This book hit in ways that I didn’t anticipate it was going to hit.
We have Cope, Sutton, and Luca. Sutton is a single mum to seven-year-old, Luca. And as a single parent to a seven-year-old, it hit me in the feels. Straight off the bat, I felt Sutton and her concerns. Cope comes snowballing into her life, and honestly, no notes. Cope was everything she—they—needed. He is a hockey player who is on a break for reasons…so he helps out the kids with their training, and Luca is on that team. Cope is his favourite player, not Sutton’s favourite thing. Luca and Cope build up this bond which is so sweet to witness. When Sutton and Cope meet he is all charming and she is at the end of her rope, she is just trying to get through the day. It had a very grumpy/ sunshine kinda vibe at the beginning.
I just loved it. We’ve got some suspense going on. What is happening, why does she keep getting attacked, she’s kind of like a woman on the run a little bit, due to her ex and his issues.
There is a scene in this that hit me quite hard, they’re sitting and talking to Luca who is very upset and has to find out some truths that no kid should have to deal with. Cope talks to him about being a family and that family isn’t blood. As an adoptive parent, it is always so lovely when these sorts of things are put in books. Showing fostering and adoption in a positive light. (I know there are nuances and issues depending on your experience and where you’re from) It’s always so special when we see these characters talk about how blood doesn’t make a family and that you can have so much love for somebody who isn’t connected through birth. This one is done so well.
The book contains some fun moments, some hand-wringing and gasping moments. And I was not prepared to find out about what led to the gasping thing. What was done really well in both the performance and writing was showcasing how somebody’s trauma can be so deep-rooted and the impact that can have on them as they go into adulthood and as they navigate life and how without help that can escalate.
Performed in dual by Erin Mallon and Connor Crais. Erin Mallon in this vulnerable yet strong character just delivers so brilliantly. Connor Crais was great in that protective role as Cope, but Erin just stole the show.

Another fantastic Catherine Cowles book!

I mean, how can you go wrong with a small town, single mom, and a hockey romance?!? Throw in the amazing writing of Cowles and you have her next highly addicting book!

Cope and Sutton are such great main characters. Immediately, even from the other books, you easily fall in love with Sutton. A single mom who would do anything for her son. Who has already gone through heart-wrenching experiences. Enter Cope, a professional hockey player, also her son's FAVORITE hockey player, who comes to coach his hockey camp.

Their first meeting is electric and it only grows from there. I love the way they cared for each other, acknowledged ones feelings, and even with 'slight' communication, communicated well. They are exactly what each other needs.

I highly recommend this book, the rest of the Sparrow Falls series, and any one of Catherine Cowles books!

Another stunning novel by Catherine Cowles that kicks starts by getting your adrenaline pumping and jam dropping twists and turns that occur throughout the storyline.

Cope Copeland is hands down the ideal book boyfriend. The way he showed his love and protectiveness of the local bakery owner, Sutton and her son was so sweet and the tenderness he had for them and his own family really shone through.

The Colson family has to be one of my favourite families with their uniquely hilarious grandmother, Lolli and her special diamond art, and family members that come from all kinds of backgrounds. This book provides more insight into Cope’s family, which I really loved learning on how they came to be shaped into the family they are now.

Broken Harbor delivers on all the emotions and narration by Connor Crais and Erin Mallon did a great performance by making the story come alive.

Thank you to the author for the alc. All thoughts expressed in this review are my own.

ā€œLife isn’t perfect. It’s not always sunshine and rainbows. It’s about finding people who will weather the storm with you. Who will find ways to dance in the rain.ā€

Catherine Cowles has done it again! I have fallen madly in love this beautiful book and more in love with the Colsons!

I had a feeling I would love this one! I mean a single mom hiding for her ex, a cocky hockey hero and the cutest kid ever! Who wouldn’t fall for that!

They were two people who have been hurt and broken before finding a safe harbor in each other. I just loved Cope and Sutton so much! They were so perfect for each! He made her and Luca feel safe and loved, and she brought back genuine happiness in his life and gave him a family to spoil.

The moments with Cope and Luca were my favourites! Those two were instant friends that became so much more! The dad scene was beautiful, had me teary eyed

Can I join the Colson family?! I love them all so much!! They are the most caring family and I love all interactions with them! And Lolli is such a hoot! She really needs her own book at this point 🤣

Can we talk about the spice?! This one might the spiciest one yet and I’m so here for it!🄵

For once I didn’t try to guess the bad guy, I just went along with the story but man were there some plot twists that I didn’t see coming!😱

This is a must read for anyone who loves small town suspense!

Will write more soon because this was book made me go through all kinds of emotion today.

This book talks about addiction, child abuse & violence. All of which got our characters to where they are at now, but more than all that, this story talks about love and about family.
