Sutton and her son Luca escaped to Sparrow Falls after they were caught in the crosshairs of her ex-husband's addiction issues. In Sparrow Falls they've found a quiet town to start over, but it hasn't been without struggle. As a single mom, Sutton's doing her very best for Luca, but suddenly, she has trouble with her landlord, leading to an eviction.
Cope has been an NHL star for years, but he's carried around a mountain of pain after her dad and brother died in a car crash. He comes home to Sparrow Falls for the summer to help coach a kids' hockey camp, where he meets Luca. Soon enough, Cope finds out some of the hardships Sutton is facing and does everything he can to help her. Of course, they find themselves living together and can't fight the attraction. But that doesn't mean that everyone in their lives wants them to have a happily ever after.
Having read the first two books in the Sparrow Falls series, I felt that this one had some different vibes. It was more physically violent and had less psychological suspense, and personally, I preferred the psychological suspense of the first two books.

4.5⭐️. This might be my favorite of the series so far and I absolutely love Cope, Sutton, & Luca! Cope was down bad early on, and seeing him do whatever he can to help Sutton & Luca had my heart bursting at the seams! He's so caring and sweet, even when feeling like he is undeserving of that in return. And seeing how he is with Luca = swoon! I love having the added mystery and suspense in these books and it really keeps you wanting to see what will happen next!

I love all of Catherine’s books, even when you think it is going to be predictable, she surprises the heck out of you!
COPESUTTON ERA!!!! this book gave everything i hoped for. sparrow falls is such a special series to me and every character holds a place in my heart. the colson family + their friends and loved ones are unmatched. i was so excited for cope and sutton’s story after sneak peeks of them and miss catherine cowles certainly delivered. the slow burn was done perfectly. two characters down so bad for each other but held back by trauma slowly bonding as best friends and then becoming lovers. perfection. both had been through such difficult life experiences and losses and for them to find joy again makes ME feel joy. one of the designated tropes for the book is hurt/comfort and the way that cope and sutton give each other comfort to overcome their individual hurt is so beautiful. i am always a sucker for a single parent romance and i LOOOOOVED luca. literally the cutest little boy - he loved his mom so much and he really did love cope like he was his dad. their little family of 3 made me burst with happiness. also i love a good hockey romance and this was perfect because instead of just being about the professional sport, it was cope coaching the little guys and that made it even better. i was interested in how the classic CC murdery-suspense vibes would culminate and was lowkey so shook by how it went down but not by the characters who ended up being evil. also really enjoyed seeing thea as sutton’s best friend, arden as luca’s sort of surrogate big sister, and anson as the protective big brother. colson squad always. i love this book SO much!

Catherine Cowles delivered once again with Broken Harbor. This emotional and suspenseful small-town romance had me absolutely hooked from the first page.
At the heart of this story are three unforgettable characters:
✨ Sutton – a resilient single mom guarding her heart and her son with fierce devotion
✨ Luca – Sutton’s sweet, intuitive little boy who steals both hearts and scenes
✨ Cope – the hockey extraordinaire with a heart of gold, who becomes the anchor both Sutton and Luca never saw coming
Cowles blends heartache, healing, and just the right amount of danger into a story that’s equal parts gripping and tender. The chemistry between Sutton and Cope was undeniable—raw, slow-building, and so rewarding. I felt every stolen glance, every moment of vulnerability, and every inch of growth as they fought to build something real in the midst of uncertainty. And can we talk about the setting? Broken Harbor practically breathes—it’s moody, mysterious, and the perfect backdrop for a love story tinged with suspense.
Cowles never shies away from tough emotional terrain, but she handles it with grace and authenticity. The plot twists kept me on edge, but it was the characters that made me feel. This story reminded me that love can be both fragile and fierce—and that sometimes, the most broken places can be where we find the most beauty.
A must-read for fans of protective heroes, strong heroines, and romantic suspense that grips your heart and doesn’t let go.
