this series is just too good.  i will admit this is probably my least favorite book so far but i still loved it.  i again loved the suspense aspect and love how the main conflict isn’t exactly what you would imagine it was going to be.  the only thing that bothered me was the constant “im not good enough” coming from cope, i just hate when the mmc gets so fixated on that.  otherwise, i lived for this.

it honestly had a good plot but there were so many characters that i couldn’t keep up. it hurt my brain

Ugh. This might be my last one.
This small town is the worst -- never gonna know when one of your neighbors (or an evil human tracks you to this small town) might try to sabotage or kill you... All these people need trauma counseling ASAP. And also, in reading them back to back, there was definitely dialogue that was lifted and reused between each couple/book.

Catherine Cowles delivers a powerful and emotionally resonant story with Cope and Sutton's journey. The book explores themes of family, grief, and the healing power of love. Sutton's fierce dedication to her son, Luca, is inspiring, and her existing relationships with the Colson family add depth to the narrative. Cope's internal struggles as a professional hockey player haunted by his father's death create a compelling character arc. His initial reserve melts away as he connects with Sutton, expressing his affection through acts of service and generosity. The novel masterfully balances heartwarming moments with suspenseful plot twists, keeping the reader engaged from beginning to end. Cope's relationship with Luca and Sutton's unwavering support during his low points are particularly moving. As with all of Cowles's books, prepare to be captivated and unable to put it down.
