I loved the first book but the second book disappointed me because the story line was so similar. This time I was prepared for that and I enjoyed it! Cope is the best and I’m so ready for Kye/Fallon and Arden’s books!!!

I love hockey romance and I love Catherine Cowles books but I never knew I needed those together but I am sooo glad we got it!
This story brings all the suspense mixed with a hysterical family who have zero filters and no sense of boundaries. The family moments and memories we get were phenomenal, this series gives hallmark movies with a ton of spice. The relationship between Sutton and Cope is so sweet and I love that it starts as with a friends foundation before they start developing feelings for each other. And add in her son and he obsession with his favorite hockey player was absolutely everything.
Sutton and her son help Cope move past his pain and trauma from his past. And when things go sideways she doesn’t allow him to fall back into the dark side of his trauma. The way they kept each other grounded was perfection! And Connor Crais & Erin Mallon bring these two to life perfectly! Yet another perfect Connor Crais narration.

Broken Harbor was another enjoyable ride from Catherine Cowles — a story I devoured like I do with every single one of her books. There’s just something about the way she writes small-town settings, quiet strength, and found family that makes it feel like a warm return home.
That said, while I definitely liked the book, a couple of things held it back for me. The biggest one? The nickname “warrior.” It just didn’t sit right with me — though I understood the significance behind it, it still pulled me out of the moment every time it popped up, which was very many times throughout. I know it was meant to be sweet and empowering, but for me, it missed the mark and just felt off.
Another thing I struggled with was the pacing of the romance. Cope got really possessive, really fast — and while I’m here for a protective MMC, the intensity came on a bit too soon without enough emotional build-up. I think I just wanted a little more time to settle into the connection before being thrown headfirst into the close proximity and whirlwind emotions.
But even with those gripes, there’s so much to love. Sutton was incredible — strong, grounded, and fiercely devoted to her son Luca (who I absolutely adored). Watching her navigate life with grace and resilience made her easy to root for. And tortured MMCs are always a soft spot for me, and Cope’s past definitely gave him that edge. Also, his love for Sutton and Luca and how he gave them a safe harbor to land on after everything, it was all just so heartwarming, oh how i love me a book with the single parent trope!
And can we talk about side characters? I’m a side character girly through and through, and Catherine Cowles always delivers on that front. The way these secondary characters shape the story and create that true found family atmosphere? It’s what makes her worlds feel so lived-in and lovable. Everyone plays a role, and it never feels like filler.
All in all, Broken Harbor was classic CC book — heartfelt, comforting, and a bit addictive. Even when I don’t love every single thing, I know I’ll always come back to her books. At this point, they’re a guilty pleasure and a go-to whenever I need something that feels both familiar and emotionally fulfilling that will gaurauntee get me out of my slump.
ALSO, LOLLI PLEASE SAY YES TO WALTER !!
