I loathed this book.
It was lazy; it was boring. It was pedantic.
It was all telling and no showing. The characters were bland. The explanations were contradictory and usually circular. It felt like the author just kept quoting mild Google facts and shoving them into the story. I've read school history books that had more vibrancy.
I couldn't invest in any of it. A cardinal sin for a book for me is if it is boring. This was a chore, but a great text to pick up if you want to know how to write something so completely drab while thinking you're a genius because it definitely felt like the author was patting themselves on the back with how clever they were.
I love science fiction, and I adore stories about time continuum. This was such a disappointment.

Truly a poorly written book. Unoriginal, boring, and soooo much telling vs showing.
I was wary of this book based on other reviews, but found it to be a swell read (listen). In a way, you can think of this tale as a Great American Road story meets Doctor Who. You've got some travel through history, concern with the timeline, a compelling and abstract McGuffin, some over-the-top proper villains, and a charming cast of historical characters. If this story gets adapted into film or series, it will be highly cosplay-able. And I'd definitely watch.
Being a huge Clines fan from way back when Ex-Heroes came out, I’m ashamed that it took me this long to read this. One of his best.
Paradox Bound was a fun time travel story that certainly pulled me in. I enjoyed it enough that I'll be looking for more books by Peter Clines.
I’m not generally a fan of most time travel stuff (except Doctor Who), but I did like Clines’ earlier book, 14. Time travel aside, this book is bad. Flat characters, boring plot, and overwrought description. I wish I could go back in time to warn myself to skip it.
I could describe the plot of this - time travel, classic cars, paradoxes. But, you know how when a book is really good, trying to describe it just doesn't do it justice? That'd be this. Just as Clines' book 14 was so, so good, I also find this to be so, so good. Read it.
I loved "the Fold" and "14" with their scary description of a alternate reality and even found Ex-Heroes fun and entertaining, this one unfortunately sits somewhere in the middle of those.
It's a full length stand alone novel, exploring timetravel and paradoxes combined with western settings and road trips, it has some interesting new concepts and are true to form well written.
However it also has a tendency to explain things twice which the reader has already figured out and it's a little repetitive at places.
And then there are the whole "chasing the american dream" which newer really seems believable, maybe it's just me being European, but come on...

A 3.5 starrer
In this age of cynicism and the souring of the American Dream if you will globally esp over the past few months, a book that is strangely optimistic and talks of the American Dream in hopeful terms is definitely anachronistic. And yet, its a book that works to some extent even if tries to remain kind of inoffensive all the way through - basically an Old world style of writing that permeates through the book
Eli Teague comes across Harry (aka Harriet), a time nay history traveler 3 times in his life. All the while, driving what is clearly an antique Ford Model with significant enhancements. The 3rd time being the charm, Eli starts to travel with Harry as she wanders across history in search of the American Dream, while being chased by the faceless men, the ones who want to prevent these searchers from laying their hands on it.
Traveling across, as a reader one gets to experience the various vignettes of American history and legends as well. Eli & Harry's chemistry and the chase is rather cutesy while the faceless men represent a rather potent and dark threat. The time paradoxes and the slides through history are kind of explained wishy-washily but the paradox elements are rather intriguing. A reason I am struggling to articulate a review for the book is really due to how things proceed and the frivolity of the threat. Maybe, its the reader in me who is way too cynical to accept this book. Not quite sure
