I had to pull myself through this book with a bribe of cookies if I finished. There was one section, before the end of "Book 1" that really flowed, but, after that, it went back to being a difficult read. Just wasn't feelin' it.

This is my third (I think) time reading this book. It is one of my all-time favorites. Definitely top 5, probably top 3.

I get why people might not like it. The structure of the book is odd. It's long. There are tough subjects. All those things make me love it. It's hard to put into words exactly why I like this book so much. I love the prose, and how it looks on the page. I love Kerewin and Simon, and even Joe sometimes. This is my go-to recommended book. I always take my time reading this book. It's a joy to immerse myself into the world.

I have never read anything else like this book, and I really don't expect I will again.

Have to say that after reading this book all I could think was, "there go several hours of my life I'll never get back". What a pile of self indulgent, navel gazing words, forced into a semblance of a story. Since we read this for bookclub years ago it has been the marker of bad to which we hold up all other books.
