šŸŽ¶ Sounds Like Love by Ashley Poston šŸŽ¶

MY RATING: āļøāļøāļøāļø

Joni Lark, a songwriter, can’t write a single note. Burned out and uninspired, she returns to her coastal hometown hoping for a reset—but finds everything changed: her best friend is distant, her mom’s memory is fading, and her family’s music venue on the brink.
Then she hears it—a half-formed melody and a voice in her head that won’t let go.
She thinks it’s all in her mind…until the man behind the voice shows up. He’s nothing like she imagined, but they share the same song—and maybe something more.
To move on, they’ll have to finish the song. But some songs don’t just end—they change everything.

Ugh. Ashley Poston is such a good writer. Her writing is so atmospheric and descriptive and beautiful, and still accessible. I love her stories and characters and the car she writes with. This book definitely felt whimsical, but I did feel a bit less of the magical realism in this one than in her others. I also felt slightly less connected to this than some of her other books. I still absolutely loved it and enjoyed reading it though. The dynamics with her family really added to the story, and it was a very sweet book.

Read this if you like:
  • nicknames
  • magical realism
  • love triangle ish
  • complicated family dynamics

Vibes: šŸŽµšŸŽ¤šŸŽøšŸŽ¹šŸŗšŸŒŠ

Song that matches the vibe: Feels Like Home by Bonnie Raitt

If you didn’t already know I’m a big fan of Ashley Poston books and this is no exception. This book is a love letter to music and the song writing process and the people that inspire those songs. Per the Poston brand there’s a little bit of magic. (Which I can always appreciate.). This one just felt like a big hug. And I would definitely say if you’re looking for a feel good romance, this may not be it. But if you’re looking for one to get in your feelings about, I highly recommend!!

Ashley Poston has done it again. I wasn't sure about this one. While music is everything to me, I don't always like music in books. But there was no denying that if anyone could make me change my mind, it would be Ashley Poston. This was a beautiful romance. I can't even find the right words to say how much I loved this book. It felt like a love letter. If you love Ashley Poston's works, you will adore this book.

Thank you to NetGalley, Ashley Poston, and Berkley Publishing for the opportunity to read this ARC!

Sounds Like Love by Ashley Poston is written from the POV of Joni Lark, a songwriter in LA who returns home to Vienna Shores, SC in hopes of finding inspiration for her next song. She hears a melody in her head which ends up being connected to the thoughts of a mystery man. As she is trying to figure out how they can hear each other’s thoughts and communicate without talking, he shows up in Vienna Shores. She discovers that he is a musician, so they decide to team up to finish the melody in their heads in hopes that this is the way to get out of each other’s minds.

Ashley Poston frequently writes books with magical realism, and this book is done so well. ✨ I’ve read The Seven Year Slip and A Novel Love Story, and I honestly didn’t love them. I wanted to give AP one last chance, and I’m so glad I did! She incorporated some heavier topics into this book, which added more depth and emotions. I really enjoyed the side characters and location. If you’re a fan of music and magical realism, I highly recommend checking out this book!

Sounds Like Love is out now! šŸ’•
