I liked its rock n roll sensibility and creepy ghost. The characters are also very well realized. There are some truly terrifying moments near the start of the novel, when the reader is still making upin their head the nature of the supernatural monster that is confronting Judas.

Washed up musician who dates women half his age is haunted by the relative of a discarded lover.
Jude is a creepy loser and just because the other men in the book are arguably worse doesn't mean that Jude is a hero or even a likeable character since there is no evidence he has changed.

I really loved this book at the start. I was hooked, I couldn’t stop reading, it was spooky. But at some point in the story, I started losing interest. And I can’t point out the reason why, because the story didn’t drag at any point. The same thing happened when I read Nos4a2. I don’t know why, especially because this book is much shorter.
So I guess I liked the story idea and where it started out, but I wasn’t a fan of where it went perhaps? All I know is I started out loving this, and ended up being ready for the audiobook to finally finish. So my overall impression is kind of middle of the road. I would totally read more from Joe Hill though.

I need Joe Hill to start writing more novels ASAP.
NOS4A2 is one of my favorite books of all time, so i had high expectations going into this one. His characters are so multilayered and flawed, I felt for Jude and Marybeth so deeply. I even laughed a few times. It felt a little predictable but I didn’t mind too much because there’s a feeling of dread building throughout. The ending feels inevitable. Also loved what Jude’s dogs added to the story 🥹. It’s a dark story but I loved the character development and writing.
Can we talk about this audiobook though? and thank god we’ve moved away from the music added in for some of the transitions 🤣 I actually jumped a few times when the music came on when I wasn’t expecting it.

The narrator wasn’t tremendously interesting, I found myself constantly zoning out and disinterested in the story
This book took a while for me to really get into. It was good for the first quarter, just not as good as it was later. Then again, it was his first book.

I really liked reading this book. The characters felt very real and were well developed for such a short book. It was spooky but not so much that I was freaked out. I am now reading his other two books [b:Horns|6587879|Horns|Joe Hill|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1275832291s/6587879.jpg|6781405] and [b:20th Century Ghosts|373915|20th Century Ghosts|Joe Hill|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1200579663s/373915.jpg|1049073]
