Started well, a clever idea and a bit creepy. The tension built up at the start fizzled out a bit. Still worth a read.
Joe Hill's writing really flows. I was not really sure what this book was about but wanted to read it and really enjoyed it.
A fun, unique and fast-paced ghost story with some interesting twists and a couple of hilariously snarky and dark "rock star" characters whom I particularly enjoyed.
There is only one author that manages to write books I enjoy that creep me out from beginning to end and that's [author:Dan Simmons]. This book isn't by him. The book established the plot, and followed it to its logical conclusion. The setup was creepy, the resolution wasn't.
Impulse airport buy. Deliciously fun, fast, satisfying read. I've been on a lengthy nonfiction kick and this reawakened the part of my brain that loves fiction, horror, sci-fi, etc.
Classic King fans, have you been searching for that great horror novel of yesteryear? You know, the one where you fall in love with wounded characters chasing realistic supernatural evil? Well, here it is. Joe Hill is literally a chip off the old block. Apparently the art of telling a truly propulsive horror story is in the blood.
As aging rockstar Jude Coyne and his much younger girlfriend battle a ghost Coyne buys in an online auction, we are treated to a haunting of epic proportions. This isn’t a book of maybe it is and maybe it isn’t ghosts, or ghosts from urban legends ghosts... but truly evil, come to haunt you to death ghosts!
4.5 stars even though dogs die (which I assumed from the start so I prepared myself the whole book).

Two and a half stars. Hill has some excellent similes and powerful, evocative sensory descriptions. There is some definite, um, influence from other authors, and not just his dad.

I just couldn't get into, at all. Slow pace, there's a ghost, a post off sister, and revenge. All things I would love in a book but this one for me was just flat, boring, didn't care at all for the MC
