I really enjoyed the beginning and the ending. Everything else felt drawn out and repetitive, which is probably why it took me four months to finally finish it!
It was beauuuutiful, the collector band member being stalked ish by the old man and using his connections with his past, helped each other to overcome this hideous ghost story.

Idk man the premise of this book is pretty good, but the characters just don’t do much for me. Maybe it’s the audiobook narrator? I had a hard time paying attention in the last half.
‘Heart-Shaped Box’ is a fun horror beach read (under a full moon at midnight with a burning torch, of course)!
Judas Coyne, aka Justin Cowzynski, is an aging deathrock star of fifty-four, and he has recently slowed down some. He hasn’t been on tour in three years and it has been even longer since he has made an album. The band died when the other two members died. But the business of Judas Coyne Incorporated still continues, so he built a business office adjoining his 110-year old farmhouse and hired Danny Wooten as his personal assistant to answer phones and answer correspondence.
Danny knows all about Coyne’s taste in the macabre, so when he got the email advertising goth items to be auctioned on a website, he clicked through and saw a haunted suit of black clothes for sale for $1,000. He immediately told Judas.
Judas thought it fantastic. A ghost! His own ghost! He could already see the publicity headlines in the celebrity magazines about his buying a suit supposedly haunted by a dead man. Even better, the suit was in his own size. His latest bed bimbo - what was her name? No matter. He called each of his female fan admirers who temporarily shared his life by the state they came from. This one from Georgia, a nubile young thing, probably would love it, and himself, even more ardently. Sold.
UPS delivers the suit, which comes in a black heart-shaped box. Everything is exactly as advertised. EXACTLY. Oh oh….
Joe Hill’s first book is an entertaining and superbly-crafted classical tale of modern horror and psychic damage. A delight! The first appearances of the ghost especially deserve an award for one of the creepiest introductions to a character that I can recall this year. Read it with the lights on if you must, but horror fans will sit back and simply enjoy!

Perhaps a bit slow in places but definitely a decent read. I can't help but compare Hill to his father and note that they both have the same tendency to delve deep into the stories of their characters.
I had high hopes for this one considering how much I loved Horns from the same author. But, this one was only okay for me. While it had an interesting story and places in it where I was either grossed out or sickened by implications from the story, it didn't have a strong vibe of scariness that permeated throughout. It was entertaining and if you aren't a jaded horror fan but instead are someone who occasionally craves a good scare it will do that. If you read horror and supernatural as your preferred genre then you might be disappointed. Still worth the read!
