I just needed to get back in the groove of reading and this was entertaining and quick (4hrs) so it was perfect.

A (white) young urban professional in their twenties / early thirties having a life crisis kinda book with a strong emphasis on friendship.

I couldn’t really relate to the characters very well and things seemed too dramatic / convenient for me. But the moral of the story to be less anxious about the future and to be honest in the present is nice :)

Dannie has a perfect life. Amazing best friend. Her dream job. A perfect fiancé who checks all her boxes and fits into her life perfectly. On the night of her engagement and dream interview, she falls asleep and finds herself living a completely different life in five years than the one she has planned. But that’s crazy right? It was just a dream.

This book threw me for a loop. The writing is so natural and effective. The story was simple but captivating. I am so moved by the story, the friendship, the emotions it gave me. I truthfully wasn’t a big fan of the main character or her fiancé but I loved Bella and the friendship they had. I knew what was coming but dreaded it and was surprised when the story concluded. My heart broke. I felt grief. I cried. Although I think the ending is a stretch and a little hard to believe; I’m surprisingly so pleased with the ending and glad that it didn’t end how I thought it would.

this book felt one dimensional, from the characters to the overall plot. i was really excited for this story but was left disappointed. there was just so much going on, from a whole lot of nothing about dannie's career to wayyyy too much about how she does not like her fiancé. it was driving me crazy!! like can we get somewhere please ? but this book was always going downhill and the ending left me confused. the beginning had so much potential but it fell apart so fast.

I wanted to care for these characters… and I tried, I really tried. But I couldn’t get past the obscene amount of wealth.

Spoilers from here on out:

Boo hoo, poor rich white girl dies in the midst of her youth. I’m sorry but I laughed when she said it wasn’t fair. This is why I don’t do realistic fiction, because I can somehow connect with a bloodthirsty fae king but if you give me a tragically ill millionaire, I’m glad she’s suffering from something money can’t fix. I just couldn’t care about any of these snobby characters especially after they joked about their foreign maid… That said, I did have fun hating these characters.
