Definitely silly, but that's what I wanted. As young adult books go, I thought it was a good specimen. Neither preachy nor moralistic, it has a good dose of scepticism towards authority without being surly or disrespectful. I was impressed with the author in an interview, and I'm glad I read the book

just finished relistening to this and truly folks a book that makes me hoot and holler. alex rider is a perfect annoying shithead teenager and im obsessed with him. every day he goes through so much trauma and he asks for NONE of it!! and yet!!

idk if its just the lens of adulthood but the way the scenes with mrs jones and mr blunt carry a really potent sense of melancholy and misery as like...this boy is a tool to them not a child they're forcing into a situation that will kill him one day.

while i loved reading a spy thriller (page turners, so good!) this one was heavy on the YA aspect. still enjoyable! i won’t read more in the series but will absolutely recommend them for a younger crowd
