I loved this book, and the comparisons to Bridget Jones’s Diary are apt. I did wish that the relationships between the friends and the characters of the friends themselves were a given a little more room to grow. All of the characters drove me crazy in the best way, and while Queenie got to improve for the most part and I loved her journey, I wanted her and her friends (mostly Darcy) to be better and more upfront about setting boundaries. You can love and support a person going through a hard time AND set boundaries. You can also be loved and supported by a person while having a hard time and call out their casual
Racism and it doesn’t mean you appreciate them any less.

That being said though, it’s an excellent book and my personal wish for a different handling of some of the relationships doesn’t change that! The author obviously has a deep love for her characters and the book was infuriating and absolutely delightful.

I had a very difficult time getting into this book. I finished it because I was curious to see how the conflict would be resolved, but I didn’t really care either way. There were some good moments, especially near the end, where you’ll root for the main character. But a couple moments at the end wasn’t enough to salvage this reading experience for me.
