Those of us who love the classics, DO actually love the classics. And I may be in minority when I say that not one classic literature book has ever made me cry ("Pride & Prejudice" was VERY close). Not that it had ever affected my appreciation of these books, it had not. However, this changed yesterday night when I was finishing up with "La Dame aux Camelias". I bawled like a baby. I absolutely couldn't stop.
It was beautifully crafted, most of all it was mesmerizing, the romanticized soul of this book, its characters, the words Alexandre Dumas fils chose to describe the events with. It felt as if I could bear witness to the reality of what had happened.

Accessible and sappy as heck, it’s the story of a worldly and beautiful young woman whom a young man of little means enchants away from her dominating dragon of a man she doesn’t love. Where have we seen that before? Perseus rescuing Andromeda from the kraken? Jack rescuing rose from Industrialist Cal Hockley in Cameron’s Titanic? Or perhaps Gregory Pecks journalist rescuing Audrey Hepburn’s princess from a life of boredom and stifling royal obligations. On and on but perhaps in not in a version so melodramatic
