What a weird, dark, claustrophobic read this was. It's a terribly bleak and depressing story too, very bizarre. A part of me truly hated it, I wanted to stop reading several times because it's so twisted but it created a sort of childish fascination in me as well.
I've just turned the last page so I'm very much still feeling disturbed, I can't really see the point of it all but still it's not a bad book. I love the way the author makes you feel the character's grief, it's really well written and I would definitely consider reading another book by them. If anything it did not leave me feeling indifferent.

3.5-ish stars?
This book was dark and disturbing-which I usually love- but it mostly just did not cut it for me this time.
Rijneveld clearly has a gift and the way she described things usually had me in awe of her writing skill but for the most part I just wasn't that into the story and found some things unnecessary.
That being said, the last 50 pages had me completely hooked.
I found myself constantly wondering how Rijneveld is going to put an end to things and although it feels obvious now, did not at all expect it to end the way it did. I cannot see it ending any other way, though.
Overall, I feel very conflicted on how to rate this book.

Bleak and not for the faint of heart. Beautiful writing and deeply disturbing.
