Never read anything by May Sarton before. This was a delightful little book. She clearly knows cats very well and is a wonderful writer. Very sweet, funny, and creative. Must read for cat lovers! Tom Jones has my heart. A true Gentleman Cat.

Reveling in this oldie but goodie as my two kitties sleep next to me. The book presents the common view that cats see their humans as servants and bend us to their will. We do supply food, shelter, and affection. And we get endless pleasure in return. Cat lovers need their cats as much, or more, than cats need their humans.

This little book was pure delight! As I cat person I thought the mannerisms and thoughts of the cat were spot on. It was short and sweet and I loved it!

Fucking just ABSURDLY charming, and laced with barely-there irony that's all the more pleasureable for being so subtle.

Such a heartwarming and beautifully written book about a tomcat who decides he needs to find a forever home. The author really knows cats and I particularly liked how it was written from a feline perspective. This book would make a wonderful gift for any cat lover and the books age just adds to its charm.

This is a good read specifically for crazy cat lady. The book takes you into the adventure of Tom Jones, once a gentle cat lived his life according to his own code until he decided that he wanted to settle down. He wandered through a vast neighborhood, meet few people whom he called a potential housekeeper until he stumbled upon 2 wonderful ladies. They fell in love with Tom first before Tom finally realized that the feeling was indeed mutual. He called them, brusque voice and gentle voice whenever they are in his narration. Why does the title called the fur person? Its a growing up phase from being the gentle cat / stray and doesnt belong to anyone to the fur person / someone's pet or family's member.
