It was cool to read about this botánica and santero, and I found the positioning of him not really believing in his work to be a funny/interesting concept. Lots of Cuban culture here, but not so much Bolivian, which I found interesting. The haunting itself was written in an interesting way but was confusing at times. I think it could have been unfurled a little differently. Not in love with the ending, but it was worth the journey.

Not a fan. The author is a white Cuban writing in the perspective of a dark skinned Bolivian man when the book shows clearly the author knows more about Cuban culture than Bolivian. It didn’t add to the book the have a Bolivian lead. I did love the representation of Miami and south Florida which is why I was initially a fan. I also am not a fan of sad endings but that is personal and not something I hold against the book and author.
