The voice of the heroine was very strong and I think she will be a memorable character for me--this could almost entirely be because Thandie Newton was such an excellent audiobook narrator. I almost want to seek out books she's narrated even if I have no interest in them. Anyway. I like reading from Jane's perspective in general. Prone to dramatics and depression but also insightful and intelligent, she seemed like a well-drawn depiction of a smart girl who's still given to youthful mistakes.

Because she is young! So young! I hated the romance aspect. Bronte is skilled at gothic atmospheric writing but the love interests were all wildly inappropriate and borderline despicable. Rochester was twice her age and abusive. Was the ending meant to ameliorate these issues? It failed.

The structure of the novel felt odd, both the pacing and timeline, but that could be because I've read very few novels from that timeline.

Regardless, and despite the overlong nature of the book in part due to the male characters' tendency to monologue, I'm glad I read it. A nice bit of mental exercise to absorb a bit of different time and culture.

Alas, dear reader, I did not care for the romance or the plot (truthfully, it was all rather dreadful). However, the craft is of high quality and Jane is a sassy lass. Consequently, I will bestow upon this story, 3 stars.

Charlotte Brontë is my J.K. Rowling.

The prose in this one is as sweet as dessert.

A must read.

Nunca creí que me fuera a gustar tanto este libro!
AMO. LO VIVÍ DE PRINCIPIO A FIN. AMO AMOOOO.

I loved this book. Jane Eyre is an icon and a feminist. I love her.

I hate that I love the romance in this book. He is a toxic man, but he understands her and she understands him and knows exactly what he is but loves him anyway. I fell in love with them and routed for them, even when they broke my heart.

The book follows the trials and tribulations of a girl until nineteen years of her life. Overall, I really liked the book, though the verbose descriptions sometimes got to me (probably due to my impatience with life in general), while at other times really jogged my imagination. Though, once started, I didn't feel like keeping it down. I can honestly say, one of the great books that kept me hooked for the entire duration.
