I definitely see why this series is popular. I enjoyed sharp-tongued, super confident and capable Liz’s relationship with gruff, silent, bad-tempered Raahosh and thought it was a great match. The premise is that Raahosh resonates with Liz but feels doubtful that he will be able to win her over in a tribe when he’s always been a second class citizen so he kidnaps her to improve his chances. But Liz is not anyone’s kidnap victim and she shows him that winning her over won’t be as easy as that. I loved their clash and compatibility in personalities. There is some sexist-adjacent, dubious consent sort of does-no-mean-yes stuff going on in this, so beware if you might be at all sensitive to that kind of content, but Liz is never shy to set Raahosh or really any man straight on any foolish perceptions they may have about women.

So. *sigh* It’s weird because in book one Liz did not come across as sarcastic and angry and just kinda awful… But she totally did in this book as well as in the first novella/short story. But it was really interesting seeing the differences in the characters and the romance and I’m still gonna keep reading of course but book 2 was just so different from the book one in an unfortunate way I’m really glad book 2 was not book one because then I probably wouldn’t have continued on with the series as always sex was fun and I’m excited to read book 3.

Welp, I really liked this too. Guess I'm about to work my way through the whole series? Also this one was way lighter than the first book.

Maybe more to come later, maybe not, but what I really liked about this one was the way it explored the fated mates trope: how does Liz, who is used to having choice in these matters (i.e. whom she wants in her bed and in her life as a partner), still maintain agency when that choice is made for her? Also the way both Raahosh and Liz were stubborn and independent, but learned to love that about each other and build a relationship on mutual respect.

Also LOVED the mutual masturbation scene and in general the explorations of physical activity beyond penetrative sex!
