Torn between 2 and 2.5. It's not as good as the first one, from the relationship to the plot of the story.
One of the main reasons Vektal tries to keep Raahosh exiled is because it would encourage others to do the same to other human girls until they're forced to resonate and accept the mate. AND LIZ DISAGREES AS IF THAT'S NOT WHAT HAPPENED TO HER?? SHE GENUINELY HATED RAAHOSH.

All I'm saying is I hate how Liz feels like she's kind of. Forced?? To like him just because his childhood was bad. You don't have to pookie bear. Ughhhh. Ick.

 Dub-con. and explicit sex.
More adversarial relationship than the first book. I had trouble rooting for Liz because of how she treats the other humans. Her stance was very trauma Olympics and the fact that she was upset at the women from the pods for crying made me want to distance myself from her. It could have been narrated as their crying triggering the "don't scream" and what happened after someone did scream from the first part of book 1, but no. Liz's narration in part one was more like, "I've had it worse, so stop processing your recent trauma in ways that annoy me."
Once she was alone with Rahosh she got more interesting, and a bit more likeable for me.

I definitely see why this series is popular. I enjoyed sharp-tongued, super confident and capable Liz’s relationship with gruff, silent, bad-tempered Raahosh and thought it was a great match. The premise is that Raahosh resonates with Liz but feels doubtful that he will be able to win her over in a tribe when he’s always been a second class citizen so he kidnaps her to improve his chances. But Liz is not anyone’s kidnap victim and she shows him that winning her over won’t be as easy as that. I loved their clash and compatibility in personalities. There is some sexist-adjacent, dubious consent sort of does-no-mean-yes stuff going on in this, so beware if you might be at all sensitive to that kind of content, but Liz is never shy to set Raahosh or really any man straight on any foolish perceptions they may have about women.
