Started this freshman year of college when I was mentally unwell and finished when I was mentally stable. Best decision ever

Although this could be the most depressing novel I’ve ever read, I have never read something where the characters come more alive. You do really feel like you know them inside and out and have been beside them the entire time they grow up during this novel. They will stay with you like friends you truly met and knew.

This was devastating. But also good. And sad. And anger-inducing. And heartbreaking. And lovely isn’t the right word, but some kind of beautiful.

a pesar de haber tardado la vida en terminármelo, nunca en la vida dejare de recomendarlo como un libro que si o si tienes que leerte. este libro me marcó para siempre. Jude y Willem tienen mi corazón

Best thing I've read in a long time. Loved it.

This book is suffering porn. It confuses trauma with character development, and takes a sick delight in watching the characters suffer, especially Jude.

At the same time, hearing these characters whine was also intolerable. I love reading challenging and dark books, but this is so edgy it reminds me of Snyderbros, and also comes across as self-parody

If I could I'll give it 6 stars.
Oh, how could I describe this book? It's so beautifully well written, it's so heart shattering, it's so painful, nostalgic, gorgeous. Just like art and poetry, just like life itself. It was like reading (long lasting) love letter, with all its hardships and happy years.

I loved the boys so much, all of the characters are so well constructed, so likeable (except for the Brothers, Caleb and Dr. Traylor ofc,  but even them were very realistic). My favourites by far have to be Willem and Harold, and the ones that I love in a complicated way are JB and Jude (oh, Judy). I do feel a lot for them. It was such an experience reading them grow, I loved it.

I do recommend the book a lot, just beware of the content warnings because it can be a lot.
