I wanted so badly to like this book, but I just couldn’t get over how uncomfortable the main character made me. We followed him as he nightlights as a knockoff Joe Goldberg, stalking a women across state lines.

Should have given up on it mid way through, but needed to know how it ends.

Surprisingly enjoyable despite the main character remaining insufferable for 95% of the book. A bit of an American Psycho-lite but without the murder, just the overblown ego and detachment from reality. The ending felt a bit trite and predictable; honestly I would have preferred
no redemption arc

This book is a chaotic mess that you just can't help but watch spiral and burn. The protagonist, Seth, is the definition of overconfident mediocre white male. It's pretty wild to follow him and his absolutely unhinged thoughts of how great he is at every moment of the day. Plus, the other male characters are equally unhinged but we aren't privy to their thoughts.

The story doesn't necessarily have one clear arc in terms of a beginning, a middle, and an end (or some kind of single conflict that is resolved at the end), but I think that was part of what made it fun. You never knew what kind of stupid thing Seth was going to do or say or think next. Would recommend if you're wanting a book that makes you think wtf the whole time, in a fun way lol

I think we have to repeat the Catcher in the Rye conceit every few decades when the last protagonist aged too poorly. Anyway I think I probably didn’t get it but it was a fun read
