It's hard to say that I "really like" this book or think it's "amazing." I can't describe how many times it made me angry, like when pastors or other authority figures were given passes when they accused of sexual or child abuse. People just chalked it up to their god-given "masculinity." This book is not snarky or humorous despite the impression the title might give. It's a cultural foray into white evangelicalism in the US.

I did not like the narrator. She sounded robotic, bored, and dispassionate.

This is a very important look into the history of white evangelical America and how it has led us to where we are today with American politics. Highly recommend this book. I just wish this book would have dived deeper into how these shifting perspectives within the evangelical church affected marginalized groups. Or if we had gotten more perspectives from people who had left evangelicalism and why they left. What are their critiques?

This explains so much. Sometimes hard to read, especially with the most recent stuff, but so well laid out.

Well researched, scrupulously end-noted, and full of insights I hadn't expected, this book is phenomenal. Absolutely a must-read for people in Evangelicalism or coming out of it. Also, important for folks seeking to understand Christian Nationalism and its impact on US Politics.
