A dramatic piece of literature. Even for us non-believers.

This is in my top 3 favorite classical literary pieces! I have several different copies of this book! The purpose is to show people the horrors their souls would go through if they did not obey God's laws, and did not live their lives righteously. I myself am not religious but rather, or somewhat, agnostic and have a severe aversion to religion and woul  also say I am very spiritual, but I love this story/poem! Dante and Virgil travel through the seven terraces of the mountain (Hell), each of them representing a deadly sin. In Paradiso, the main character, with the guidance of his beloved Beatrice, travel through the nine celestial spheres of Heaven. As opposed to Inferno and Purgatorio, in the last part of the poem the protagonist encounters virtues, not sins.

Of course, the writing and prose is very beautiful and well done, and it’s easy to keep turning the page. However, I also found myself, very often, zoning out while reading, it’s not a story that grips you and holds your attention. And that’s not quite its intention, it’s a story you need to pace yourself with and really take in what it’s message is. Although, I am not religious, the beautiful prose and literary significance makes it worth the read.
I agree with the other reviewers that Inferno was better than the other parts.
