Finally finished this book, what a wild ride. Loved Inferno, the imagery was fantastic and it completely immersed me. Paradiso was good, some interesting points to think about. Purgatorio I found quite lackluster, I struggled to get through it. Overall I'm glad I read all three but Inferno really was the cream of the crop.

Interesting and fun classical book on Heaven, Purgatory, and Hell structure. Don't believe all the moral suggestions that it makes. This book is pretty extreme and wild, but overall I think that made it fun to read. It does, however, make some subtly interesting claims
Graphic: Death, Torture, Violence
I only read what I had to for class.

Possibly the most famous bit if fan-fiction to ever be written, besides 50 shades.
Fascinating read about the society of 13th century Italy and the surrounding politics, presented in a very dark world of christian values - despite, for the most part, not feeling very christian at all (a balance of which I found enjoyable).
A challenging read, constantly flipping to read every footnote, even googling maps and names and family trees just to know who is speaking. Its clear to see why this book is so densely studied, but even from a surface level read it is engaging. My only real issue is with Paradiso. The focus of morality and ethics of a good or sinful life were clear, but then Paradise is presented as this brainwashing light, and the ethics of which are wavered. This is when the fanfiction side of things felt strongest to me and detracted from the rest of the comedy. Made me wanna become a crying tree in hell, rather than be baptised and serve my way to heaven.

Hell is far more interesting than purgatory and heaven, with Dante placing prominent characters being punished for their sins. I struggled not to fall asleep through purgatory and heaven.

I too want to casually drag mythological and historical figures, and my contemporaries in a book.
