Connelly is my mind-candy. And I will always like Detective Bosch, eternally fighting the good fight for those cold-case victims.
It's not the worst book from Connelly but it's certainly not the best.
As a native Dane the Danish aspects of the book really bothered me.
First of, the name of the victim Anneke is an extremely unusual name. Of a population of about 6 million people only about 50 living people in total are named that.
Secondly, Connelly keeps refering to the Danish newspaper Berlingske Tidende as BT, but BT is an entirely separate newspaper in Denmark.
That is just bad research on Connelly's part. Both things could have been fact checked in 5 minutes on Google.

Finally Bosch lightens up a little and shows a tiny sense of humor.
2.5 stars Decent entry into the series. I liked the premise and the ending, but it got a bit dry in the middle. I was expecting a bit more from this book, and was actually hoping for some J Edgar beyond the flashback at the start.
very methodical in its explanations. this is the first have read of the character Bosch and indeed the first of Connelly and perhaps if I had a 3 or 4 hour plane ride it is a satisfactory way of passing the time. Quite a good representation of the genre just wasn't my particular cup of tea

Unfortunately this was my least favorite of the Harry Bosch series. I will say the audio with the reader Michael McDonnohie was very blah and not as good as his other performers of the Bosch series, so was disappointed when I saw the narrator, but gave it a shot.
I like the reference with his daughter and her personality and his love of jazz music, and his tenacity, but again the reader was not exciting at all. As usual Bosch is involved in the unsolved cold cases from 1992 and now in present day he is focused on bringing in the killers---with its normal political bureaucracy.
I have read all the series, but sadly, this was my least favorite and did not live up to the standards of the older novels.
