I read my first Harry Bosch book by Michael Connelly with the reading of the latest novel in the series, Black Box.

And I really enjoyed the book.

This is the 19th book in the Harry Bosch series. What I like about this series is that it is real time. Michael Connelly has aged and created this world in real time where each book ages one year at a time. I had the privilege of meeting Michael Connelly as part of the Sony VIP Book Club and it was very interesting to hear him speak about his writing and these characters. You can read about my thoughts here - http://coffeeforthebrain.blogspot.com/2013/02/michael-connelly-what-i-learned-from.html

Back to the book. This book held my interest. There was an interesting case. Along with the case I felt compelled to learn more about the characters. I wanted to know more about the story of their lives. Despite jumping into the series very late I did not feel left out. I was able to connect with Harry right away. The two plots were interesting and I read this book very quickly. I have not read a book this quick in quite some time. I am not a crime book reader. This is not my genre. However, I would like to go back and read the rest of the books in the series.

If you are looking for a good crime story with a cop with a flawed past, then this is for you. He does not bring in unnecessary facts. He writes about what is needed to know and takes you on a journey with a character that you can't help but like despite the flaws.

A few years at the urging of a friend, I began devouring the Harry Bosch books. It's a testament to Connelly's skill as a writer that he can take a procedural format and not make it seem repetitive. I love seeing Harry learn to grow as a father given the professional choices he's made. That's been my favorite element to watch in the past few books, and this one doesn't disappoint on that front.

Great Bosch
adventurous dark mysterious tense slow-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Plot
Strong character development: No
Loveable characters: No
Diverse cast of characters: No
Flaws of characters a main focus: No

The Black Box is yet another cheesy mystery wherein gruff Harry Bosch has to solve a case when everything is stacked against him. While these are all formulaic and kind of dumb, I'm still entertained by both the characters and how ridiculous street slang sounds coming from Bosch and Michael Connelly.

I haven't read a Bosch in quite a while, needed a break. Good one to come back on!

Ideal for that post-vaccine slumped with mild side effects day..... same old same old.

Very good ... Connelly always hits the mark!

Thumbs up, this is my first Harry Bosch book and will definitely start reading book 1. I'm a fan of Mickey Haller series and thought I give Bosch a try, glad I did.
Started out pretty slow but got really good towards the middle to end.

Looking forward to read #19!
