Between the Lines is absolutely adorable. It was a very easy and sweet read, but I do think it was a little below my level....more like junior high than high school. However, I loved the illustrations and the actual fairytale combined with Oliver and Delilah's perspectives. It was just so cute and the twist at the end was surprising, but amazing!

I've seen that many people have been critical of this book. I can understand why this may be, when many people are familiar with Jodi's other books, and I am a big fan of Jodi Picoult myself. However, I think it's important when you start this book to understand that it's VERY different from anything that Jodi Picoult has written before. It shouldn't be compared to her previous books; it stands on it's own. Take away any expectation you may have from the name of the author, and this book is actually pretty good. The concept is simply amazing to me. The idea that when you close a book, the characters are free to exist as they wish, but when the covers are open, they are compelled to perform the book over and over again, as if it was a theatre performance. The book may lack a lot of depth that you normally find in these kind of books, but the details are charming. The fact that you get the fairytale in the book along with the main characters of Oliver and Delilah. The idea that anything that finds it's way out of the book only exists as words in our world. The idea of two characters falling in love who are forced to be separated. The illustrations are amazing too. And it was these details that made me like this book so much, even though the plot line lacked a lot of depth, and had inconsistencies in places. I don't want to give away too much of the ending, but I loved the twist with 'Between The Lines' at the end, even though I did have one problem with the ending (which I won't go into here because of spoilers.) So, although this book does lack depth in places, the concept and the little original ideas scattered throughout the book interested me greatly and made this a very enjoyable read for me.

So, I like a lot of this. I also have to account for it being YA and half written by a 16 year old.
That being said, I do have a problem with some aspects of it. Some aspects leave some plot holes. And the ending…don’t know how I feel about that.
But
I did enjoy it and am about to read the next one. I was rooting for Oliver and Delilah. I wanted to see him out.
We’ll see if the parts that are not great can be fixed in the next one.

2.5 for me. this is probably one if the first times ive rated a book this low before. I wasn't feeling the story tbh, & it was hard for me to finish the story up.

Super cute book and I’m about to start the second one. This is fluffy and sweet and sometimes I just crave a book like this one. Stayed up reading until midnight to find out what happened next.

absolutely loved it.

i have been following the musical for a while and only recently realized it was this book. i read this book so much when i was younger and absolutely loved it. i was listening to the album recording from the musical and i knew i had to read the book again so i bought a new copy. started reading and i couldn’t put it down. it is now 2 am haha and i just finished. i can hear the songs playing in my head when i’m reading a specific scene and i absolutely love it. i cannot wait to watch the musical and see these characters brought to life (
