A beautiful story about the importance of love, life, and maybe death.
Dan Geminhart (the author) wrote The Honest Truth (the book title) about a boy who is on a great adventure with his best friend/dog, Buea.
Mark (a main character) is on an adventure to Mt. Rainer on his way there he travels many places by the time he gets to Mt. Rainer he has a setting all over the place. Mark runs away from home, stops at some restaurants, then a takes a bus to a river where a guy in a truck picks him up and takes home to the visitor center of Mt. Rainer, when gets to Mt. Rainer he climbs for over three hours in wet, cold snow.
In this book you will find the characters are great. Marks dog, Buea is a very thoughtful dog, its like Mark is his king and he worships him so much. Also, Mark worships Buea so much to its like there the perfect match. Buea is Marks best friend there more then friends there family.
The theme is very much adventure Buea and Mark are on a long adventure to Mt. Rainer and who knows if they will come back alive.
I would say Dan Geminhart is one of the best authors, his books are great and exciting. His writing makes you feel as if you are in the book.

This book is beautiful and heart wrenching. It brought tears to my eyes. It doesn't shy away from hard topics and I can see this book being one that readers will hold onto in their hearts and minds for a long time.
This was a quick and easy read. It is truly a page turner where the only thing i wanted to know was will he survive? The real hero here is the dog,Beau.
Mark has valiantly fought cancer for years but when it comes back again Mark decides to take his life into his own hands. When his grandfather died Mark promised him that he would climb Mt. Ranier. And that is what he is going to do - with his dog, come what may, So Mark runs away leaving only a brief note in haiku to his best friend Jessie.
Told in alternating viewpoints of Mark and Jessie the reader experiences their anger, confusion, and determination. This is an interesting story and I enjoyed it. But is it appropriate for kids and how young. Well, the author is himself an elementary librarian - interesting. I would say some 5th graders could handle it and obviously above. Lower than that probably depends on whether they have ever been put in a situation with terminal illness...

Read this book because my 5th grader is about to read it in class. Very good book, kept me reading and wanting to know what would happen to Mark. Loved the relationship between Mark and Beau. Thought the friendship between Jessie and Mark was a little overdone or not believable, but it was cute. Lots of emotions in this book! Mark's adventures were outlandish, but middle graders will definitely enjoy it!
