Great book full of suggestions and helpful material. Just like her others. It’s all really good to review but I feel like you can just read untangled and get what you need. This feels a little too much like rehashing the same material in order to publish more books.

3.5 stars. Even though this book is for girls I think it's still helpful for boys to read it because we (boys) also feel under pressure and experience anxiety.

Notes:

We need to appreciate anxiety as the protective mechanism it is.

You can use breathing techniques to hack your own body to get you to calm down.

General anxiety happens when we overestimate how bad something will be and we underestimate our ability to deal with it.

Anxiety can get us to do things that provide immediate relief such as numbing ourselves to the world around us by watching TV, being on social media, or eating. These nervous habits don't help in the long run because the only reinforce the idea that something is really wrong when it isn't.

Avoidance only makes anxiety worse. Avoidance is a problem because it's a quick fix into sidestepping your fears prevents you from knowing that it wasn't as bad as you thought it was.

Even if it's not something you want, it is something you can handle.

The author said we are raising the best generation of behaved children on record.

The happiest girls are those with one or two solid friendships.

Kids are enthralled with technology as much as they are with the person on the other end of the technology device.

Promiscuity and crime are in the same boat. It appears it's going up and prevalent but it's actually declining. The news builds it up to be bigger than it is. I hate the news.

As usual, I ended the book wishing that I had Dr. Damour’s voice constantly streaming in my life. Talk radio show in her future?

The content in this book is very similar to her first book but framed around all the areas where a young woman might experience anxiety. It includes some updates as well, on how to discuss sexual harassment. I loved her explanation of how anxiety is a young woman’s friend, to an extent.

Useful information in here, very much written with parents in mind. Falls short in addressing issues of race and social class.
