Relaxing and so beautifully illustrated. The colorized pages are so vibrant. Except for the last two stories, this collection was solid. True, nothing much happens, but that's slow living for you. The nature shown is stunning and the little interactions are just so nice to see.

Favorite maybe...the cherry blossom one? Or the one where he climbs up the tree to help fetch the toy plane. That page where he stays in the tree to stare off into the landscape!

The second to last story was kind of like a rude awakening, not only in content, but also in the harsher shadows and shading. It injected a darkness you wouldn't expect from any of the other vignettes. Weird choice, but I guess a person has layers. Sorta ruined the mood, but I suppose the authors created the story for a reason.

Nothing much happens in this book, nonetheless, it is pure joy. The main character simply walks around, explores his environment, and celebrates being. Sometimes he walks alone, or with his dog, or with his wife. Sometimes he travels a traditional path, or zigzags through an unfamiliar neighborhood. He might take his shoes off and feel the dirt beneath his feet or lie down in the grass for a sojourn. The art is stunning; clean, simple lines that are rich in detail yet free of clutter. Although there aren't many words in this book, you won't feel compelled to rush through it. Instead, you'll want to join the man on his walks, taking your time to really explore the world that Jiro Taniguchi and his character have expertly pulled you into.

a genuinely pleasant read. loved the imagery and the way the illustrator was able to capture the ordinary details of the character's life.

This was amazing. Almost flaneur-like. Simple stories of wanders. Of simple enjoyment. Of noticing.
