Charming, whimsical, and a bit cheeky! This was such a fun read. The audiobook narration is also superb! I’m looking forward to the next installment.

A short, easy listen. Emma is a charming protagonist, and while unfortunately my library doesn't have anymore of these audiobooks, I might try to find the physical copies so I can breeze through the rest of the series. Great to pick up for someone wanting short, lighthearted, very readable historical fiction.

I must say I'm a little confused about how this book has such a high rating—not because it's bad or anything, but because it feels seriously incomplete. It's not even a first act so much as... a lot of exposition, and then it ends. Like, I read 98% of this in one sitting on a not-even-that-long flight. I'm fine with serialization, but Emma M. Lion Vol. 1 felt like it needed at least another hundred pages before I could even form an opinion. Like who even is this Emma broad? Narrator? I hardly know er!
So... 3 stars because the jury is still out. They're still so far out they haven't even asked for the check at the brunch restaurant.
(Also not the clergyman character being a hot young Coolguy. Tell me the author is Mormon without telling me the author is Mormon. It's giving youth pastor who raps)
