I could never objectively rate this, or any other book Harlan wrote. He is my best friend that I’ll never meet. Someone else will have to point out the flaws. I couldn’t do it if I tried.

I wished I enjoy Ellison as much as others. His prodigious volume of work results in hits and misses and unfortunately a curated collection of this still suffers from too many misses. His crafting of sentences ranges from workman like to exceptional. His plotting and characterization does as well. A few stories will stick around in my head forever. It could be to achieve the heights one must suffer the variance.
