I enjoyed this book, I loved the atmosphere of it & the fact that you got a feel that it was really written in the 1800’s. I’d definitely read more of his books .

This was it; the book that led me to the far less satisfying The Poe Shadow. It is really well written and compelling. I remember now I was reading it under the gun with the library's wacky return-it-in-under-3-days-and-its-free scheme. I'll have to go back and read it again.

I really enjoy most of Andrew Taylor's historical fiction and mysteries, and his Roth trilogy is brilliant, but this one just isn't good.
