✨ A dreamy and whimsical romantasy with brilliant tension between fate, sacrifice and betrayal.
⭐ Rating: 5/5
Desperate to stop the wedding of her true love and her step-sister, Evangeline Fox makes a bargain with a Fate, Jacks the Prince of Hearts. After their first meeting, we see how much Evangeline cannot trust Jacks. However, their paths continue to cross, even more so after Evangeline becomes aware of a prophecy of someone crowned in rose gold—a unique colour Evangeline herself embodies. Tension, suspense and betrayal continue throughout the trilogy until the genuine truth is finally revealed.
I loved how whimsical this story was, and how stunning Garber’s description is of the world and her characters. There is this air of a dreamlike magic which contrasts against the intensity of the prophecies. What truly made the story shine was Jacks’ moral ambiguity and morally grey characterisation, particularly in contrast to the brightness and lightness that Evangeline embodies. Even with this being a reread, I couldn’t help but be so immersed in the story, too captivated by their search for truth and breaking of the curses. At times, I wanted to shake Jacks and Evangeline, but I also lived for the growing tension something fiercely.

*le sigh*
as quickly as i gobbled up this series (thanks audiobooks) i really didn’t feel much but annoyance at evangeline and the random thrown in characters that were just forgotten as the series progressed.
where did her witch step sister go after causing all that mayhem? where did her “first love” turned vampire disappear to? why DOES jacks need all those apples?
and how did apollo turn so wretched??
even after the series conclusion there are still so many unanswered questions and that bugs me. plus the fact that evangeline literally learning nothing about nearly being killed almost a dozen times. there was a smol attempt at learning self defense but why not start that after the events in the first book?
also also i do not fall into the category of “jacks

I enjoyed the rollercoaster of emotions in this book. I loved the ending of this book and story. Felt like the just right ending after just enough longing. I wish we knew more about the curse and what exactly happened with the kiss but nonetheless loved it.

Maybe I read too many books this year, but it was a little difficult for me to pick up where the series had left off. I did like that we got Jacks’s and Apollo’s perspectives in this book, but I didn’t like how when it switched to Evangeline’s everything was explained from her/to her that was revealed in the other chapters. This was a lot faster paced compared to the previous books in the series, almost like the author wanted to hurry up and finish the story.
Overall, decent end to the series. This series was humorous and pretty light making it an easy read.

This was a nice end to the series. It was a very, very slow burn, but a really sweet love story in the end. This was my favourite out of all of the books. 0🌶️

I actually am quite proud i finished the series. Didn’t really like it that much. But didn’t DNF it. I usually always finish my books. But these books would have been DNF’ed if it was something i do.
Ending and conclusion was as expected. It was a bit of the same again and again. It was almost like i read parts of the first books. Yea no..didnt like it much. So sad. Hoped for more. The last book (2nd in the series) had a really good last part. Liked that writing style. Too bad the writer didn’t do something similar in the final book.
Im glad i finished it. Won’t get fomo anymore. And also a big lesson for me: Dont always believe the hype!
