The Gift of Rain snuck up on me, the beginning started slow with the introduction and establishment of Philip Hutton's post-war life and emotional fragilities to not being able to put down through the day to day life of wartime Malaysia. Tan Twan Eng captured the complex relationships between characters which leaves an intense raw emotion as I finish this book.
