Bittersweet, outdated but still somewhat funny (strictly geeky insider jokes).

Jag läste den här boken för första gången för över 20 år sedan och det gläder mig att jag fortfarande älskar den lika mycket nu som då. En av mina största favoritböcker någonsin.
Microserfs was a truly fantastic look at the tech culture of the 90s. It mainly focuses on Silicon Valley, while contrasting it with the culture of the Microsoft headquarters in Washington state.
The book deals quite a bit with multiple philosophies. This includes corporate culture, capitalism vs communism, and the effects of technology on the way people treat the world around them. All of this comes from the perspective of one of the workers, who treats every chapter like a diary entry in an effort to further understand himself and the changes his life is experiencing.
Like many stories, the ending doesn't feel quite definitive. As though the characters still have more to offer.
Overall, I found myself laughing and enjoying these very different characters learning to live with all he turbulence the 90s and their professional lives through at them.

Surprisingly poetic. Teared up a little bit. But, now a days most things make me teary eyed.
This book was a real time warp for me. I thought it was really interesting. The only weird thing is that the main character Dan doesn't really have a personality. The entire book is lived through his point of view and you don't really get a feel for him, because Dan doesn't have a feel for himself and vicariously lives through all the people who are around him. The other characters in the book are fantastic.
This book also reminded me a lot of my grade 11 year when I went all geeky and almost became a computer geek myself and then realized that I was more creative than logical.

As a technology student and as a human, that life of them really bringing out insights in finding human reasoning, questioning the technology, the elements which adds the colors to the life and specially karla's words - that women is amazingly philosophical. i really enjoyed reading this book.
Brilliant. Thats all I can say about this book. Its brilliant. As with all of Coupland's work, he injects a level of artistry that is rarely come across in literature. He is fully aware that he is writing a book and instead of simply using the medium to carry his words, he uses the medium of the novel in a very deliberate and artistic way that only heightens the brilliance of the novel.
The only downside is the technology used in the book is a bit outdated, but thats to be expected and he actually makes a point of that in the book.
Its not a quick read persay...I found myself reading maybe 10 pages at a time. But thats okay....its not about plot, its about the medium and the self.
