great read!! i liked the fact that it was in short chapters which made the pace really quick and it felt like reading a listicle but yknow. good. this was the start of a journey trying to learn a LOT more than i was taught in school about native americans post watching killers of the flower moon and wanting to have an opinion that wasnt wow that was kinda good i guess without knowing any cultural context. good start, highly rec for people who want a place to start.

Review summary: Pros: made me respect the study of modern natives rather than just ancient natives.
Cons: Overly biased. Thematizes idea that all white people are bad, Science is bull crap, and everything about modern Native American culture is good. In my opinion, not worth the read, but has potential.
It had potential but is too one-sided. Speaks in absolutes against Darwin's theory of evolution extensively to confusion.

Hard-hitting and well produced. The chapter on mascots ties the imagery to increased suicide among Native youth; if that's not enough, what is?

Short chapters that dispel the myths surrounding Native Americans. Very interesting and readable. I read several reviews stating that every high school student should read this, and that would be appropriate.

I think this book is a good primer, or jumping off point, for learning more about Native history & experience. There wasn’t a lot in here that was brand-new to me, but I still appreciated the birds-eye overview
