The Storm Runner is a book that follows an unlikely hero on a quest to save the world. Where have I heard that one before? There were things I liked about this book and I wouldn’t say that there were things I didn’t like; I just think that this book didn’t hit the mark for me.
I liked the mythology that we learned about in this story. I thought it was the most interest part of the story. I would have liked to have more vivid and descriptive settings though. Zane finds himself in some pretty interesting places, but I think they could have been built up a little more.
I didn’t find myself connecting with the characters as much as I have with some of the others I’ve read that are middle-grade books. I’m not sure if that’s due to my reading so many middle-grade books that focus on mythology or that I’ve really loved the others that I’ve read.
I don’t want to say that there was anything wrong with The Storm Runner because there certainly wasn’t. It was fun to read. It was fast-paced, but not too much so. There was adventure and mystery. I just didn’t connect to the story in the way I expected to.
Overall, this was a fun story but it was average for me. I think it’s definitely worth reading. The mythology was fascinating and we follow the main character who has a physical disability. I liked this book and will be continuing the series without a doubt.

An interesting book that grabbed me from the get-go, mainly because of the Read Riordan Label and its heavy Maya influence.
The story focuses around Zane Obispo, who is handicapped with one leg that is shorter than another. He's roped into an ancient Maya Propechy and has to stop the antagonist of the book, the God of Death.
All in all, I think that the book was good, if not at times a little immature with the names that Zane calls the antagonist. I look forward to seeing whether or not we'll see a book 2, and where that will take us.

BOOK 1 (OUT OF 21) OF MY HOLIDAY READS - AUGUST 2022
An intriguing 5*
I love Rick Riordan and the whole idea of the Rick Riordan presents intrigued me. I first read the Pandava series, which I adored. If you haven't read that, you need to.
Like all the Rick Riordan Presents, each series focuses on a different mythology. The series of Storm Runner focuses on the Mayan mythology. I know a little about the Mayan mythology as I taught the Hero Twins as part of the Hola Mexico topic, which I taught in July 2017.
I liked this introduction. There were a lot of interesting points and I look forward to reading the next in the series. (I can't possibly read it now. My head is fried in the midst of a 5hr flight.)

Fantastic
J.C. Cervantes does a great job painting one of the tougher mythologies into the modern world. If you’re a fan of Percy Jackson or really like mythology this is a good book for you to get some Maya!

Ohh I really enjoyed this! Honestly, I am so happy with the Rick Riordan Presents books, because I was starting to get a bit tired by all the Greek/Roman/Norse Mythology retellings and because of this I can read about all those different mythologies and learn about them in a fun way (because sure I would learn more through a nonfiction book but they're usually very tedious).
I highly recommend this book if you loved Percy Jackson, Magnus Chase, Heroes of Olympus. I recommend this if you want to learn a bit about Maya mythology.

I was pleasantly surprised by this book! I didn't enjoy it much in the beginning because it felt like it was rushing too fast, but actually there was so much plot that it was an okay pace for the story to move along. It was very interesting, unique, and of course, full of action.

The thing that I loved the absolute most about this story was the fact that it was centered around Mayan culture/mythology. It was completely new to me. I knew literally nothing about their mythology, so I found this book to be not only entertaining but informative as well. For example, I got to read all about Ixkawkaw, the goddess of cocoa!
