I loved the two main characters and the world building. The plot was fairly predictable but I don't mind that in a middle grade. I really liked the use of the cane.

I’d definitely recommend to people who love Percy Jackson it’s very similar.

Fun Fact: Theres a glossary in the back for terms in the Maya mythology

Overall I enjoyed this book, it was written well and I think kids who like Percy Jackson and that kind of story will really enjoy it. I really enjoyed the mayan gods aspect as it's not something I knew much about. I have to admit the pacing of this story was a little off, it felt very info-dumpy at the start but by a third in it picked up. I do think some of the side characters need more development but as this is the first in a series I will give it the benefit of the doubt. Fun, easy read I would say.

I'm gonna give this a 3.5 stars, I probably will read the sequel when it comes out as I would like to see if we get more character development.

This book absolutely has the feel and humor of a Rick Riordan novel. It is about Mayan mythology but it is definitely for fans of the Percy Jackson series!

Middlegrade novels are pretty much guaranteed to be fun if Rick Riordan is involved, and this didn't disappoint! I really enjoyed reading about Mayan mythology, as I previously knew next to nothing about it, and Zane was a very lovable main character.

Fuck this was so good.

Excellent young adult action adventure novel. I really enjoyed this book. The book takes the stories on Mayan gods and brings it to a collision course with modern day New Mexico. The author cleverly infuses humor into the storytelling. The books have clean language and very mild flirtation between two teens. I’d highly recommend the book to preteens looking to move beyond just Greek and Roman gods.

Cool Mayan myths but trying too hard to be like a Rick Riordan book.
