It was a fun read, but not very memorable.

This was a very enjoyable book, great read alike for all the fans of Riordanverse.

*3,6 star*

I really liked this book, it's fun and entertaining and it has great characters. It was written by a latinx author, it has latinx characters and it's based on Mayan mythology, which is amazing. I just had issues with the amount of internalized ableism.

One of the weakest in the Rick Riordan presents line that engages with some not so great disability representation. I enjoyed the myths and lore, but this was difficult to make it through.

A few things:
1. Zane Obispo I think you are love shaped. I think you are the best boy ever and I love u!!
2. Mat SEXY send tweet
3. THAT ENDIGN ?!? WHAT THE FUCKMSBSHSJSJSJ?!?!?

Mythology brought to a modern world is nice, but this feels so much like Percy Jackson and didn't really do anything new. Plus the main character's [bad] decisions felt forced just to proceed the story
Spoilerand the prophecy.
Hoping it will feel less of a PJO rip-off in the following books.

There are a few trigger warnings including bullying, violence, general anxiety/ fears. BUT this book was such a ride. I absolutely loved the Mayan mythology in here and thought that Zane reacted in a way that much more aligned with how I would expect ANYONE to react to finding out you’re a Demi-god. I definitely cannot wait to see where Zane’s story goes and how he and Brooks’ friendship develops. I will say that the way this book started off kinda dragged because you weren’t really sure what was supposed to be going on but eventually a groove was found and it did not disappoint!!

I think my only complaint is the side characters, specifically the neighbours. Aside from being a seer and giving him a pepper, they weren’t overall that important but were given more development than Jazz or someone.

Przedstawienie mitologii innej niż grecka czy rzymska na plus. Fragmenty ze wszystkimi bogami, demonami itp czytało się świetnie. Reszta książki... no cóż.
Urocze ale no, głupie.

I read the entire thing in only two or three sittings, so I guess it was pretty good... Not exactly the most pleasant world to imagine, but absolutely full of adventure from start to finish.

What if your greatest insecurity was a clue to your extraordinary destiny?
Zane Obispo has been teased his whole life about his limp, caused by one of his legs being slightly shorter than the other. When a disgusting creature crashes near the volcano in Zane's backyard (yes, he has his own volcano) and a mysterious girl shows up telling him that he is destined to release a god from a Maya relic in his volcano, it is only the beginning of his adventure. Zane will travel to the Underworld, the Old World, and Los Angeles in order to un-do his destiny and figure out who he is. And that slightly shorter leg? It might just contain powers beyond his wildest dreams...
