I mean, its a fine 20 minute book full of platitudes like work on things that inspire you and art is worthwhile. Is anyone saying otherwise? To be honest I thought it was going to be about drawing, and the illustrations by Chris Riddell are probably the best thing about the book.

I loved the section on libraries. “We need literate citizens” now more than ever. The final section on art was eye opening, not just for making art but for living life. “Do things as long as they feel like an adventure and stop when it feels like work” (paraphrasing) - sentiment to live by, for sure!

This is an awesome pep-talk book. Grab your favorite beverage and read through it in 20–30 minutes. The illustrations are charming and the hand-written text adds to the emotion of the content. Neil is clearly passionate about the field and through a book like this, that passion is contagious.
inspiring lighthearted reflective fast-paced

Fucking brilliant. A collection of four short essays, Neil Gaiman makes the argument for the importance of libraries, freedom of thought, creativity. Gaiman compels the reader to be imaginative and respect the value of literature.

Gaiman is the Midas of Words. Pure gold here. A must read for all creators or creatives

First book read of 2019: Art Matters. This is exactly what I needed to read and here as I go into my final semester of university majoring in Theatre and minoring in Creative Writing. Make good art. Be bold. Be rebellious. Choose art. It matters.

I bought this book today and when my Mum asked why this one, I told her because it was an essay from my favourite author on how making art matters (it's in English and she wanted a translation in Spanish to understand what it was about). She asked why I needed a book to tell me what I already knew and my answer was that every once in a while we all need a reminder of why it's important to make good art.
This book gave me goosebumps, and did just that, remind me that we should all aim to make good art, always. I know I will go back to it every once in a while.
Then I got retwitted by Neil Gaiman himself and almost had a heart attack.

Inspiring

Great words. Great art.
This is something to re-read when I get too far away from my creative center.
